About a week after Cinegear 2022, we got a call from DP Jeff Nolde, “We need a slider motor with wireless to strap to the front of a roller coaster.”
Jeff had seen our prototype 900mhz wireless system for our slider motor at the Maleko Grips booth at Cinegear, and Mark Steinig (from Maleko Grip) connected him to our team at KFX Technology.
To get this project up and running, we sent the wireless protype to Peter Yauri of Hollywood Camera Sliders for a test. He has a couple of our motors in his rental inventory, and he is always ready for a new challenge. Peter also has extensive experience working with cars and our slider motors.
Peter had faith that our system could handle the job. He verified the range was more than enough for the roller coaster and then set out to determine if our slider motor would work perfectly through speeds of up to 58mph and pulling up to 4G.
On the shoot day, the rig worked perfectly! The motor had no trouble with the speed or G force, and the wireless system never dropped the link the entire day. It was so successful that they are looking to use this set-up to shoot on other rides in the future.
Maleko Grips and Hollywood Camera Sliders will be the first customers in the USA to have the wireless slider systems. Contact us to learn more.
